FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q - How does the Gatekeeper prevent a board from being removed from your vehicle?
A - The surfboard is positioned with the Gatekeeper in front of the fin(s) and behind the board's hips. Because of the height of the fin(s), the board cannot be slid forward. Because of the greater width at the hips, it cannot be pushed backward.
Q - What about removable fins - can the Gatekeeper be defeated if the fins are removed?
A - We offer solutions for those who have boards with removable fins. Use our Fin Lock if you have a removable center fin on your longboard. It attaches to the fin box, concealing the fin box screw and locks in place, preventing removal of the fin.
Use our Fin Guard if you have removable fins on your Thruster or Twin Fin. It is a guard that covers one of the side (rail) fins, concealing it and preventing removal of the fin.
Q - How many Gatekeeper Racks are needed to secure a surfboard?
A - One Gatekeeper Rack is required per board. You can mount two side-by-side if you want to carry two boards.
Q - I have a pickup truck - is the Gatekeeper installation easy?
A - Yes. The Mounting Bracket installation is quick and easy. We provide all the hardware necessary to complete the installation - including a drill bit. All you need is an electric drill and a screwdriver. You'll be done in about ½ an hour.
Q - What about installing a Gatekeeper over a bed liner?
A - We include an additional set of screws (longer length) for bed liner applications.
Q - Is the Tailgate Gatekeeper easy to detach from the Tailgate?
A - Yes. Just pull the pin and lift it off. We provide a nice black nylon bag with zipper to stow the Gatekeeper in when you're not surfing.
Q - I have an SUV with a luggage rack. Will the Gatekeeper Rack work?
A - Yes. Attach the Gatekeeper to one of the cross bars. Use a good quality Soft Rack on the other cross bar (ours or other's)
Q - Is the SUV and Sport Rack Gatekeeper easy to detach from the roof rack?
A - Yes. Just use the key to unlock the Spin Nut Locks. Loosen the Spin Nuts and lift the entire Gatekeeper Rack off of the cross bar. We provide a nice black nylon bag with zipper to stow the Gatekeeper in when you're not surfing.
Q - I surf shortboards as well as longboards - will the Gatekeeeper adapt to different shapes and sizes?
A - Yes. The Gatekeeper mechanism expands from a minimum locked dimension of 15-3/4" to a maximum locked dimension of 24-3/4". This should accommodate any of your boards, since the Gatekeeper is positioned behind of the widest point of the board. Additionally, the Rail Cushions are compliant and easily conform to varying rail shapes.
Q - I carry my boards in travel bags, socks and naked. Will the Gatekeeper Rack adapt?
A - Yes. Use the included Rail Cushions if you carry your board naked or in a sock. The Rail Cushions will support and protect your board at the rails (where you have more fiberglass). If you are using a travel bag, you can temporarily remove and store the Rail Cushions. Your travel bag will cushion your board in the Gatekeeper Rack.
Q - I'd like to order multiple Racks and/or Cable Locks - can you key them alike?
A - Yes, we often accommodate this request. This is a special order and requires an additional three weeks for delivery. (add $5.00 per lock)
Q - How will a Gatekeeper Locking Surf Rack improve my surfing day?
A - Gatekeeper Racks are great when traveling at highway speeds and hold your board securely on winding roads.
A - You can leave your board locked in a parking lot during the day if you surf before or after work/school
A - You can stop at a store or restaurant while you're out, instead going home first to drop your board off.
A - Take two boards surfing - surf one and lock the other one in the Gatekeeper.
A - All Gatekeepers are easily detached from your vehicle. On the days when you're not surfing you'll have your luggage rack and/or truck bed free for other uses.
